Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you might want to know about how these random name generators work — and what you can do with the results.
-
Are these generated names trademark-free?
The word banks and name lists used here are either commonly used, public-domain-style given names or originally composed components. That said, we cannot guarantee that any individual generated name is free of existing trademarks — trademarks can be held on everyday words. Treat every result as a starting point and check before using it.
-
Can I use a generated business name commercially?
You are welcome to use a generated name as a creative starting point for your business. However, we do not verify trademarks, business registries, or domain availability. Before adopting any business name commercially, search your local trademark register and confirm the matching domain name is available — ideally with a professional.
-
Can I use a generated baby name, username, or fantasy name for any purpose?
Yes. Names and usernames are generated from general word banks and public-domain-style given names, and you can use them however you like — for your child, your character, or your accounts. Fantasy names are composed from original syllable patterns rather than copied from any existing game or book.
-
Do the generators use AI or make live API calls?
No. Every generator runs entirely in your browser from bundled, static word and name lists. There are no AI models, no external API calls, and no data sent to a server — generation works even offline once the page is loaded.
-
Do I need an account or email address to use the generators?
No account, sign-up, or email is required for anything on this site. There are no saved-name or favourite features by design, so nothing about your activity is stored.
-
How many names can I generate at once?
Each click of the Generate or Regenerate button produces a batch of up to 18 names (16 for business names). You can click Regenerate as many times as you like — every batch is a fresh roll.
-
Where do the name lists come from?
Baby names draw on broadly Western, public-domain-style given names. Username and business name generators use originally composed word banks, and fantasy names are built from original race-specific syllable patterns. Nothing is scraped from a third-party site.
-
How does the random name generator actually work?
Each generator has a config file that defines its word pools, filters, and generation strategy. When you click Generate, a seeded random number generator picks or combines entries from those pools — for example combining a keyword with a suffix word for business names — then displays the batch on screen.
Still have a question?
The generators cover baby names, usernames, fantasy names, and business names — each with its own page and its own explanation of how it works. If your question is about a specific generator, head back to that page for the details.
